A blended is essentially a round-segment bifocal where the junction between the distance and near powers is polished/blended to make the segment line virtually bifocal invisible.
It still has only TWO optical powers:
- Distance in the main lens
- Near/add in the round segment
So, importantly, it is NOT a progressive lens. There is no gradual progression through intermediate powers.
How the blend works
Instead of a sharp boundary:
Distance | Near the edge of the near segment is softened over a small area, typically around 1–3 mm, depending on the design/prescription. This makes the segment difficult to see cosmetically.
